Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about applying to university in 2026 through UniStart
When can I start university with UniStart?
You can start year-round! UniStart recruits continuously for multiple intakes throughout the year. Right now (December 2025), we're recruiting for January and February 2026 starts — you could be in class in 3-6 weeks. After that, we recruit for May, June, July starts, then September and October. No need to wait months — apply now and choose your preferred start date. We process applications within 72 hours.
Do I need to pay anything upfront?
No. Student Finance England covers 100% of your tuition fees (paid directly to the university) and provides a Maintenance Loan for living costs (paid to you). You pay £0 upfront and only repay after graduation when you're earning over £25,000/year. Learn more in our complete Student Finance guide.
Can I apply without A-Levels?
Yes. Foundation year courses accept GCSEs, BTECs, work experience, or mature learner status (21+). The foundation year is fully funded through Student Finance and guarantees progression to Year 1 of your degree. Your final qualification is identical to students who enter directly. Read our Foundation Year guide for details.
Am I too old to become a student?
No. 48% of UK undergraduates are aged 21+, and Student Finance has no upper age limit. UniStart has helped students aged 21-58 access full funding. Your age and life experience are actually advantages—universities value mature students for their motivation and workplace skills. Check out our Mature Students guide.
Can I study part-time while working?
Yes. UniStart matches you with part-time, evening, and online courses that fit around your work schedule. Part-time students studying at least 25% intensity qualify for pro-rata Student Finance. Many of our students work full-time while studying—we help you find the right balance. Browse flexible courses.
What if I have children? Can I still afford university?
Absolutely. Student parents receive additional support on top of standard Student Finance: Childcare Grant (up to £199.62/week for 1 child or £342.24/week for 2+ children) and Parents' Learning Allowance (up to £2,024/year). Combined with your Maintenance Loan, this can total over £20,000/year in support. Read our Childcare Grant guide.
How long does the application process take with UniStart?
Most students complete their university application, interview preparation, and Student Finance submission within 72 hours of submitting their details to UniStart. You get a dedicated advisor within 2 hours, interview coaching within 24 hours, and we help you submit your complete Student Finance application within 48-72 hours. Eligibility depends on your UK residency or immigration status and Student Finance rules. Settled Status, Pre-Settled Status with qualifying residency, British passport holders, and other routes can qualify—submit the eligibility check and we’ll confirm your next step.
Do I need documents now or after the interview?
Start with the eligibility form. If you pass the interview, the university or Student Finance may ask for documents later—we’ll tell you exactly what’s required and when.
How fast is the next step?
