Foundation Year

What it is

A foundation year is an extra year of study that sits before the main undergraduate degree. It helps students who need to refresh subject knowledge, boost academic English, or switch fields altogether. You are still registered with the university and usually study on campus with support from the same faculty delivering the degree.

Foundation years often include smaller class sizes, extended tutorials, and study skills workshops. Once you pass the year, you progress automatically to Year 1 of the linked degree, provided you meet the agreed pass mark.
